KISHOREGANJ, Oct 12 (UNB): President Abdul Hamid asked on Saturday all students to prepare them properly through studies to prove their worth in this competitive era.

He made the directive while addressing a reception accorded to meritorious students of Mithamain, Itna and Astragran upazilas organised by Abdul Hamid Foundation at the Abdul Hamid auditorium in Mithamain upazila.

Sewing machines were also distributed among 51 women of the district at the programme.

"Don't request me to recommend a job for you if you aren't capable of getting the job in a proper manner. If I recommend job for any student who is not eligible for it, it'll be injustice to the talented one," the President said.

He also said many job-seekers requested him for the job after facing recruitment tests. "But after the results are out, I find that most of them even didn't pass the tests."

For this reason, Abdul Hamid said he has established the Abdul Hamid Foundation to help students and inspire them to study more.

Seeking support from all, he said, "I need your support to run this foundation in a proper way. I believe if everyone extends support, this foundation will contribute to developing the country, including this haor area and Kishoreganj, as well as work for the welfare of the human kind."

Abdul Hamid said awards from the President will act as an inspiration to the students and it will encourage them to study more. "If the students of haor don't read attentively, they won't be able to reach the highest destination of the career and survive in this competitive world."

Announcing that he will continue to provide this type of stipends to the students in future, he said they will have to give feedback in return through working for the country and people of the haor areas.

The President also directed school and college managing committees to monitor the activities of their respective institutions and ensure the presence of teachers.

MP from Kishoreganj-4 Rezwan Ahamed Taufiq and Chairman of Zilla Parishad Zillur Rahman spoke at the programme as special guests.

President Abdul Hamid on Saturday asked the authorities concerned to ensure the quality of development projects.

"The institution or person concerned must be liable if any negligence is found I development work," he said while witnessing the progress of different ongoing development projects, including Itna-Mithamain-Astagram roads.

President Hamid directed the authorities concerned to complete the under-construction roads by March next year, his Press Secretary Joynal Abedin told reporters quoting the President.

This road will connect three upazilas of Kishoreganj, ease road communications with Dhaka and other parts of the country.

President Hamid hoped the road will benefit the haor people and open a new door of economy and make their dream true.

A source, familiar with the project's work, said about 78.1 per cent work has been completed.

The under-construction Austagram-Nawga will connect Chatalpar of Brahmanbaria district through a bridge while Austagram-Kastul-Bhantshala roads will connect Itna and Mithamoin upazilas.

Earlier, the President was informed about the proposed Mithamoin Cantonment.

The President arrived in Kishoreganj on Wednesday on a weeklong visit to his home district.
