Govt approves LNG, fertiliser procurement

The government on Thursday approved a number of proposals for the procurement of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and fertiliser to meet the demand.

The Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase, at a meeting at the Cabinet Division conference room at Bangladesh Secretariat with Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed in the chair, approved the proposals.

According to meeting documents, the committee approved a proposal for Petrobangla to buy one cargo of LNG from M/S POSCO International Corporation, Incheon, Korea at Tk 6.93 billion where per MMBtu will cost $14.69.

Also, the committee approved a proposal for the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) to buy 30,000 tonnes of MOP fertiliser from Prodintorg, Russia at Tk 1.043 billion, with each tonne costing $489.75.

Moreover, the meeting allowed the BADC to import 40,000 tonnes of DAP fertiliser from OCP Nutricrops SA, Morocco at Tk 2.805 billion where each tonne will cost $584.50.

The meeting also approved a proposal for the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) to buy 30,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertiliser from Karnaphuli Fertiliser Company Limited (KAFCO) by spending Tk 1.235 billion, with each tonne costing $343.25.

Responding to another proposal, the committee also approved BCIC to import 30,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertiliser from SABIC Agri-nutrients Company, Saudi Arabia at Tk 1.258 billion where each tonne will cost $349.67.
