Govt employees rally for 9th pay scale

The government employees from 11th to 20th grades demanded on Friday that the government form a permanent pay commission and announce the ninth pay scale aiming to remove salary disparity.

Under the banner of Sammilito Adhikar Aday Forum, the government employees placed the demands at a human chain programme at the National Press Club in the city.

They also suggested that the government determine salary gap as per grade and reduce the existing number of grades and pay logical dearness allowance before implementing new pay-scale.

The two-hour event that started at 10:00 am witnessed gathering of over 100 government employees from 11th to 20th grades.

The other demands they put forward for the government's consideration include implementing one and unified appointment rules, regularisation of block post through giving promotion at all levels, restoring time-scale and selection grade, changing ranks and grades at all departments outside Bangladesh Secretariat and refixing the amount of all allowances considering the market prices of essential commodities.

Besides, providing ration to the lower grade employees, refixing gratuity at 100 per cent from the existing 90 per cent and fixing the rate of pension gratuity at Tk 500 from the existing Tk one were also among the demands.
