Govt launches CCMS for e-com sector

'It'll act as a bridge among stakeholders, bring discipline'

FE REPORT | February 20, 2023 00:00:00

The government has launched a central complaint management system (CCMS) on pilot basis for bringing discipline in the country's crisis-ridden e-commerce sector.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi inaugurated the system as the chief guest of the programme. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak was the special guest.

Ministry of Commerce Additional Secretary Md. Hafizur Rahman, Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) Director General A H M Shafiquzzaman, and e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB) President Shami Kaiser also spoke at the event. Senior representatives from different agencies concerned attended the programme.

Under the trial run system, only the customers of Anondomela.shop, e-joyeeta.com, and daraz.com.bd will be able to complain through the CCMS app, developed by the ICT Division.

The commerce minister said, "We all have to be aware of fraudulent activities in the e-commerce sector. The CCMS platform will prevent such activities. It will act as a bridge among consumers, regulatory bodies, and other e-commerce stakeholders."

The e-commerce sector has played an important role during the COVID-19 pandemic period. The scope of e-commerce has increased a lot in the recent time.

The system has been introduced to ensure that customers' shopping through e-commerce entities is safe, and any irregularity can be easily addressed.

The ICT state minister said, "The popularity of e-commerce is increasing day by day. During the COVID-19 pandemic period, we needed it very much. The e-commerce platforms have made people's life easier."

A consumer can now easily submit any legitimate e-commerce-related complaint through the CCMS for resolving the issue. It will be handled through automatic coordination with the DNCRP and different e-commerce stakeholders.
