Govt officials warned of action if involved in protest progs

FE REPORT | January 01, 2025 00:00:00

The government on Tuesday issued a stern warning to public servants who have been involved in different programmes to press home their demands violating service rules.

The Ministry of Public Administration said any violation of the provisions of the Government Servants (Conduct) Rules, 1979 shall be considered as misconduct under the Government Employees Discipline and Appeal Rules 2018.

"If any public servant violates any provision of these rules, he or she shall be liable to disciplinary action for misconduct," a ministry statement said mentioning relevant points of the rule.

"The government's stance is very strict regarding the undisciplined conduct of government servants," it added.

The ministry said public servants play an important role in providing public services and managing the administrative activities smoothly.

It also said the success of public administration depends on the disciplined, responsible and professional behaviour of government servants.

"Public servants' image is being tarnished due to the various programmes, including rallies, sit-ins, strikes and human chains, organised by some public servants of different ranks in recent times," the statement reads.

It has been observed that before the implementation of some decisions of the government, unpleasant feedbacks are being posted on social media platforms, which is contrary to the related rules, the ministry further said.

It also mentioned four points of the Government Servants (Conduct) Rules, 1979 reminding them of the prohibited manners.

The warning has been issued against the backdrop of different cadre service officials' position seeking equal benefits.

Such a situation has arisen since some recommendations of the Public Administration Reform Commission came up for discussion on December 17.

Some officials, including non-cadre ones, have been holding different protest programmes, including rallies and human chains, to meet their demands.
