The government has taken an initiative for the birth registration of newborns in Rohingya refugee camps.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed Nasim on Sunday came up with the disclosure in Parliament while responding to a starred question from Awami League MP Momotaz Begom (Manikganj-2), report agencies.
"Bangladesh Army in biometrics system and the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) in cooperation with the Bangladesh government are conducting the birth registration activities," Nasim said.
He said the government also took massive vaccination programmes for the Rohingya children.
The regular vaccination programmes have been going on for all the Rohingya children since November 18, 2017 in line with the schedule of the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI), said the minister.
He said one dose of MR vaccine was provided to all Myanmar citizens (Rohingya camps), aged six months to under 15 years, to check measles outbreak, while one dose of BOPV vaccine was given to all children aged up to 59 months from September 14,2017.
Besides, one dose of cholera vaccine was given to all the children above one year of age from October 1 to 16 last, he added.
Meanwhile, a report from Cox's Bazar says: The United Nations special rapporteur for human rights in Myanmar, Yanghee Lee, for the second day visited different Rohingya refugee camps in Balukhali of coastal town Ukhia on Sunday.
Lee interacted with refugees and heard their accounts of violence carried out by the Myanmar Army from 9 am to 1 pm while officials from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and other foreign aid institutions were also present there.
She also assured the refugees all kind of assistance in repatriation to their homeland.
Meanwhile, another report says: Rohingya repatriation will take more time to start as preparatory works are yet to finish though Myanmar side says repatriation begins on Tuesday.
"Rohingya repatriation will take place. It's possible to start at any time once urgent works related to repatriation are finished," said convener of technical committee on repatriation and Cox's Bazar Rohingya Repatriation Commissioner M Abul Kalam.
He said the repatriation of Rohingyas can no way begin from Tuesday as there are many tasks to accomplish. "Meanwhile, it's not such a task that can start immediately."
Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali in Dhaka also said he will not tell any date but the repatriation process has already started with the signing of physical arrangement.
