Govt takes initiatives to modernise railways: Sujan

PANCHAGARH, Sept 20 (BSS): Railways Minister M Nurul Islam Sujan said on Friday the government has taken initiatives to modernise the railway sector with a view to making it world standard one.

"We have taken elaborate programmes for developing the railway …as the railway communication system is easier and comfortable means of transportation compared to other systems," Sujan said.

The minister made the remarks while speaking at a views exchange meeting at Debiganj upazila of the district in the morning.

Various development programmes are underway in railway sector which will continue until 2045, he said.

The minister said, "We have started working to introduce direct rail communications from Chilahati of Nilphamari district to Haldibari of India".

Deputy Commissioner of Panchagarh Sabina Yasmin, Upazila Chairman Abdul Maleque Chisti, UNO of Debiganj Prottoy Hasan, Upazila Awami League President Nuruzzaman and General Secretary Hasnat Zaman Chowdhury attended the meeting.
