Law enforcers have launched investigations into sexual assaults on women at several locations in the city by men heading to Wednesday's Awami League-organised rally, said Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, reports bdnews24.com.
He made the comments while while talking to journalists on the sidelines of a discussion on 'Promoting Adult Nutrition' in CIRDAP auditorium in the city on Thursday.
The minister said police have obtained the footage of the incidents, including the one at the capital's Banglamotor, where a teenage girl was molested by a group of men.
"The perpetrators will be brought to justice," the minister said adding they will not be spared irrespective of their political affiliations.
The ruling party held a public rally over the historic March 7 on Wednesday at the Suhrawardy Udyan, attended by Prime Minister and Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina.
Thousands of activists from across the capital and suburbs headed for the venue in the early hours of the day, marching on the streets in processions.
A post by a teenage girl, who said she was sexually assaulted in the city's Banglamotor area by men heading for the rally, went viral on Facebook later in the day, triggering a firestorm.
Over the Banglamotor incident, Khan said, "We have obtained the security footage of the student being assaulted. The perpetrators will not be spared, irrespective of their political affiliations."
