Home Minister Asaduzzzaman Khan Kamal said on Friday the government will do everything necessary to control Aedes mosquitoes which is responsible for spread of dengue, reports UNB.

"Currently dengue is the severe mosquito-borne disease. The government will do everything necessary to eliminate Aedes mosquitoes carrying dengue-virus. Also, public awareness must be raised about this matter," he said.

The minister came up with the remarks while addressing a rally against mosquito menace arranged by Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) in the city's Manik Mia Avenue.

The Home Minister said everybody should be aware from their respective position to put an end to mosquito menace. "Aedes mosquito will not survive if we keep our surroundings clean."

"This type of mosquito can breed easily in clogged but clear water. So we have to keep our surroundings clean. Only then we'll get rid of dengue as well as the mosquito menace," he added.

Councilors of different wards under DNCC and city dwellers joined the rally with colourful balloons, banners and placards.

In an announcement, DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam confirmed that the DNCC authorities have cancelled leave of all staff working for mosquito killing and waste management to prevent the spread of diseases like Dengue and Chikunguniya in the city.

'I have cancelled leave of all staff of waste management department. They will have to do their duty even during the vacation of upcoming Eid-ul-Azha. Everyone must work together to control Aedes mosquito," he said.

He urged people to keep their homesteads and surroundings clean to stop the spread of mosquito-borne diseases.

Renowned film actors Ferdous and Riaz, cricket all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz, former captain Akram Khan and some other celebrities joined the rally.
