May 20, 2019 00:00:00

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said the government has undertaken all-out security measures to ensure peaceful celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr across the country, report agencies.

"The law enforcers have been instructed to intensify security measures in the capital as well as across the country to ensure peaceful celebration of the Eid", he said.

The minister came up with the remarks while talking to journalists after emerging from a meeting on Eid security at his ministry.

The minister said the law enforcers will conduct block raids across the country alongside setting up of check posts aimed at ensuring adequate security measures.

Besides, the police will also set up separate check posts at the entry and exit points of the capital, he said.

Patrol police will keep the houses in the capital under surveillance during the Eid vacation, he added.

Asked if there is any threat of sabotage, Asaduzzaman Khan said, "No, there is no threat of sabotage. Intelligence agencies are on alert."

About salary and bonus of readymade garment (RMG) workers, he urged the owners of the garment factories to pay their salaries and bonuses before the Eid.

The minister said stern action will be taken if buses or launches carry passengers beyond their capacity and passengers are charged extra fare during the Eid.

Apart from the uniformed members of law enforcement agencies, the plain clothes Detective Branch (DB) of police and members of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC), the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) will also be on alert at all airports, diplomatic zones, buses, ferries, train terminals and shopping malls to ensure security during the Eid, Kamal added.
