‘Gunfight’ kills drug peddler in Ctg’

CHITTAGONG, Oct 20 (UNB): A suspected drug peddler was killed in a 'gunfight' with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Barisal Colony on Ice Factory road in the port city today.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Faruk (42), a 'top drug peddler' of the port city.

Mimtanur Rahman, senior Assistant Director (media) of RAB-7, said a team conducted a drive at Barisal Colony to recover drugs. Sensing their presence, drug peddlers opened fire on the elite force members, forcing them to retaliate, triggering the gunfight.

During the gunfight, Faruk was caught in the line of fire and suffered bullet injuries. He died on the spot.

The elite force recovered three pistols and 0.2 million pieces of Yaba pills from the spot.

Faruk's body was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
