\'Gunfight\' kills pirate in Bagerhat

BAGERHAT, Feb 07 (UNB): The ringleader of a pirate gang was killed in a reported gunfight between his cohorts and members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Mrigamari in Mongla upazila on Tuesday.

Deceased Shamsul Haq alias Shamsu (48), was the chief of a notorious gang 'Shamsu Bahini' of Arjunbahar village in Sadar upazila.

Commanding officer of RAB-6, Khulna, Khandaker Rafiqul Islam, said a team of RAB-6 conducted a drive in Mrigamari area in the morning.

Sensing the presence of the elite force, the associates of Shamsu opened fire on them, prompting them to retaliate triggering a gunfight.
