‘Gunfight' with cops kills 'robber' in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, July 08 (UNB): A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Sakoa in Palashbari upazila in the early hours of Sunday.

The dead is Shamsul Haque, a resident of Satarpara area.

Police arrested Shamsul on Saturday afternoon, said Mohammad Shahriar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gaibandha Sadar thana.

Later, police conducted a drive along with Shamsul around 2:00 am.

When the team reached the area, his cohorts attacked police and opened fire on them. In retaliation, they fired back in self-defence, triggering the gunfight that left Shamdul injured with bullets.

Later, the injured was taken to Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
