Hatiya social worker Abu Taher dies

Social worker and Liberation War veteran of Hatiya Upazila Mohammad Abu Taher (Murad) died recently due to old-age complications. He was 88. He was buried in his family graveyard after namaj-e-janaja at Bangabandhu High School, said a press release.
Taher left behind one daughter, two sons, relatives and a host of admirers to mourn his death.
He co-founded Bangabandhu High School in southern Hatiya in Noakhali in 1972.
He was also closely associated with many social and voluntary orgnisations including Bangladesh Red Crescent Society.
An organiser of the Liberation War, he was convener of the 17-member Sangram Committee in Hatiya.
He was the father of FE journalist A.Z.M. Anas.
"At his death, we've lost a pro-liberation and self-less social worker and an educationist," said Kefayet Ullah, former headmaster of Bangabandhu High School in a statement.
"These days it is very difficult to find a self-less social worker like him," said Mr Ullah, an ex-secretary of the Hatiya Thana Secondary School Teachers’ Association. "The void he left can never be filled." He also recalled the immense contribution of Mr Taher in establishing the high school.
