HC stays recruitment of 3,534 junior instructors, physical edn instructors

FE REPORT | January 28, 2025 00:00:00

The High Court on Monday stayed the recruitment of 3,534 individuals who have already been selected by the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) as junior instructor and physical education instructor for different Polytechnic Institutes and Technical Schools and Colleges.

The court also issued a rule asking the government authorities concerned to explain as to why the appointments should not be cancelled over alleged irregularities in the recruitment process.

The HC bench of Justice Md Akram Hossain Chowdhury and Justice K M Rasheduzzaman Raja issued the order and rule following a writ petition filed by 18 candidates challenging the legality of the recruitment process.

Barrister Kayser Kamal, assisted by Advocate Maksud Ullah, appeared for the petitioners. Maksud Ullah said the 3,534 candidates were scheduled to join service on January 29. "They cannot join the service following the HC order," he said, adding that the petitioners alleged fraudulence in the recruitment process.

The lawyer claimed that they were selected based on MCQ and viva tests without any written examination. The final results for the recruitment to the posts were published on November 26, recommending 3,534 appointments in 44 categories. The results were published by the Public Service Commission (PSC), he added.

The recruitment advertisement was published on October 26 in 2021. The MCQ test was held on March 18 in 2022 and the viva voce was held from May 25 to June 2 last year. The authorities issued the final notification on January 23 this year for their joining.
