Help desks set up at councillors’ offices

FE REPORT | October 28, 2020 00:00:00

Six help desks have been established recently at ward councillors' offices under Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC)--first of its kind in Bangladesh-- in order to ensure essential services, like improved water, sanitation and waste management services to urban poor.

A total of six wards have come under the coverage of 'Help-Desk' service on pilot basis.

These are -- wards 02, 03 and 05 under DNCC and wards 22, 24 and 25 under DSCC.

Resource Integration Centre (RIC) and Solidarities International have been supporting this initiative under the project titled 'Slum-based Citizen Action Network (SCAN)', technically and financially supported by the European Union.

More than three million poor and marginalised people live in Dhaka city. Most of them live in slum areas.

The main objective of setting up the 'Help-Desk' is to make a bridge between urban poor people and local government representatives (e.g. ward councillors) and representatives of the essential service providers, such as Dhaka WASA, city corporations.
