HSIA bolsters security with add’l measures

FE REPORT | July 02, 2025 00:00:00

Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) authorities enforced additional security measures to strengthen vigilance and ensure the safety of passengers and aviation operations.

Authorities at the country's busiest airport took the action after a gun magazine was discovered recently in the bag of Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, adviser to the LGRD and Cooperatives Ministry.

The new measures included intensified attention during baggage screening for all VIP and VVIP passengers and mandatory manual checking for high-risk baggage after scanning through metal detectors and X-ray machines, according to a HSIA authority's note disseminated to media.

All Aviation-Security (AVSEC) members are being provided with regular awareness briefings and clear instructions to maintain operational readiness, said the note.

The CCTV monitoring team has also issued special directives and procedures have been strengthened to ensure prior approval and record-keeping for all firearms carried during entry into the airport premises.

In case of any security breach, investigation committees will be formed through the concerned agencies, and preventive directives will be issued accordingly to avert recurrence, said the directives.

Meanwhile, CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshal Md Monjur Kabir Bhuiyan on Tuesday inaugurated the new uniform for the AVSEC forces. He inaugurated the new uniform at a programme arranged at the HSIA.
