ICT-1 records deposition of 13 witnesses

Depositions from 13 witnesses have been completed so far in the case involving the killing of six people in the city's Chankharpool area during the 2024 Uprising.
The three-member bench of The International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) in Dhaka, led by Chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, adjourned the proceedings until next Sunday after recording depositions from two witnesses on Thursday.
Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam gave an opening statement at the tribunal on August 11 in the crimes against humanity case. Shahriar Khan Palash, the father of the late Anas, was the first witness to give his deposition on that day.
On July 14, the ICT framed charges against eight accused, including former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman, in the case.
Four of the accused were present in the courtroom during the proceedings: Arshad Hossain, former Inspector (Operations) of Shahbag Police Station, and former constables Sujon, Imaz Hossain, and Nasirul Islam.
The remaining accused, including Habibur Rahman, former DMP Commissioner, Sudip Kumar Chakraborty, former DMP Joint Commissioner, Shah Alam Mohammad Akhtarul Islam, former Additional Deputy Commissioner, and Mohammad Imrul, former Assistant Commissioner of DMP, are currently absconding.
Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim represented the prosecution, while lawyer Sifat Mahmud and others represented the accused.
