IGP lauds retired officers' social works

Praising social activities of retired police officers, Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque on Saturday said retired senior officials' wise advice and spontaneous co-operation are valuable resources for serving policemen, reports UNB.

"It is truly commendable that retired police officers have been engaged in public service for their social and citizen's responsibility," the IGP said while addressing the 35th Annual General Meeting of the Bangladesh retired police officers Welfare Association (BRPOWA) in the auditorium of Rajarbagh Police Lines SI Shiru Miah on Saturday.

The police chief said Bangladesh Police is working relentlessly for the welfare of the people of the country.

Mentioning that recently, Bangladesh Police has been able to show great success in combating militancy and terrorism, the IGP said police are now ready to face any challenge.

"We want to build a modern and people friendly police," the IGP said seeking cooperation from the retired senior police officers in this regard.

The IGP paid tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the beginning of his speech and remembered all the martyrs including martyred police members in the great liberation war, and with respect to the police members killed during the duties.

Chiared by M Shahidul Islam Chowdury, president of the BRPOWA, the AGM was also addressed, among others, by its vice president Md Sarwar Hossain and secretary general Mia Lutfar Rahman Chowdhury.
