Inspector General of Police (IGP) Javed Patwari said on Monday the culprits behind the attack on noted writer Prof Zafar Iqbal will be brought to justice, reports UNB.
"We have started investigation to find out those who were involved in the attack. As we could not interrogate the arrestee Faizur due to his illness, we'll find out the culprits behind the attack," he said.
The IGP came up with the information while addressing a programme as the chief guest at Jagannath University on Monday.
"Faizur Rahman, who was arrested in connection with the attack on the prominent writer Zafar Iqbal, has been personally influenced by the fanaticism," he added.
I hope people from all walks of life will come forward to root out militancy from the country, said the IGP.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia, who was also present at the programme, said, "The attack on Zafar Iqbal was not carried out by an organised militant group as we have already destroyed the organised militant network. There is nothing to be worried."
Prof Zafar Iqbal came under attack at Mukta Mancha of SUST during the two-day celebration programme, 'Robofight,' of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) department on Saturday.
