India pledges all-round deeper 'people-centric' cooperation

FE REPORT | May 05, 2026 00:00:00

India reaffirms its commitment to strengthening "people-centric cooperation in all domains" with Bangladesh as its outgoing high commissioner Pranay Verma pays a farewell call on Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman.

The meeting at the foreign ministry on Monday marked the end of Verma's tenure, during which both sides said bilateral ties had continued to expand across "multiple sectors".

Rahman congratulated the envoy on completing his assignment and acknowledged his role in advancing relations between the two neighbours.

Verma expressed gratitude for the cooperation extended by the Bangladeshi government during his posting and reiterated New Delhi's intention to deepen engagement with Dhaka.

"India would continue to work closely with both the government and people of Bangladesh to enhance collaboration aligned with shared development priorities and mutual benefit< he says.

Officials say the two sides briefly reviewed ongoing developments in bilateral relations and expressed optimism about their future direction, citing growing capabilities and aspirations in both countries.

Bangladesh, Rahman says, "is keen to build a forward-looking and mutually beneficial partnership" with India, underscoring Dhaka's interest in sustained cooperation. He also wishes the outgoing envoy success in his future assignment.
