Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Kumar Verma joined the Durgashtami celebration at the historic Dhakeshwari Temple in the capital on Tuesday, highlighting the deep cultural and historical ties between the two neighbouring countries.
Accompanied by his wife, the envoy extended greetings of the Shubho Sharodiya to the devotees, noting that the Durga Puja reflects the common heritage of India and Bangladesh.
"India and Bangladesh share a unique and special relationship. They are connected through history and geography, and emotionally linked by the shared sacrifices of the Liberation War of 1971."
The envoy underscored that the Durga Puja is not just a religious occasion, but also a celebration of "culture, inclusivity, and compassion where families come together, neighbourhoods unite, and art and music flourish."
Calling the festival a symbol of the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness, and hope over despair, he expressed optimism that the occasion would inspire both the nations to build an even stronger future together.
"These festivities remind us that our cultural bonds are older and deeper than our national boundaries. The true strength of our relationship lies in our people as well as their shared traditions and mutual respect."
On the occasion of the Ashtami Puja, the high commissioner prayed for peace, prosperity, happiness and harmony of people.
