Foreign minister Dr AK Abdul Momen termed on Wednesday the Indo-Bangla ties a role model of good neighbourliness for the world.

The unresolved issues between the two neighbours would be resolved through discussions, he said.

The bond between the two nations is so warm and matured that it can be an example of how two next-door neighbours should treat each other.

Dr Momen said this to reporters after his meeting with the new Indian high commissioner, Riva Ganguly.

"We've resolved big disputes like land boundary and water sharing. Many countries couldn't do that," he maintained.

The minister said the level of trust and confidence between the two countries is so high that resolving the pending issues is just a matter of time.

"We'll focus on that after the general election of India," he went on to say.

Responding to a query, he said any change in the government in India would not affect the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Dr Momen pointed out that India has responded very positively by backing Bangladesh with regard to the repatriation of Rohingya refugees.

India had offered the line of credit to Bangladesh for implementing various development projects, he recalled.

"They have also provided us duty-free facilities to reduce trade deficit between the two countries."

After the meeting, Ms Ganguly said she discussed the entire gamut of bilateral ties with the minister.

Both sides are working on areas like connectivity, power trade and counter-terrorism, she told the media.

In reply to a query, she said since multiple bilateral issues were earlier resolved amicably, pending issues like Teesta deal would also be addressed.

Both the countries are committed to further consolidating their warm ties, added the envoy.
