Inqilab editor, reporter sued for 'defamation'

A defamation case has been filed against the Bangla daily Inqilab editor and publisher AMM Bahauddin and its reporter Sayeed Ahmad Khan for publishing a report under the banner of 'Tk 100 billion embezzled in the name of loan' that brought allegation against the 'Noman Group of Industries'.

Barrister Enayet Baten, a Supreme Court lawyer, on behalf of Noman Group filed the case on Wednesday with the Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Dhaka, demanding Tk 20 billion as compensation. Taking the case into cognizance, Metropolitan Magistrate Shafi Uddin issued summon against the accused, and ordered them to appear before the court on December 21.

Claiming the report baseless Barrister Baten said it has caused irreparable damage to the company, Noman Group, which is one of the country's top local industrial groups in the textile and garment sectors.
