Islami Bank's ex-exec president Kamal dies

Islami Bank's former executive president (managing director) M. Kamal Uddin Chowdhury passed away on Wednesday afternoon while undergoing treatment at a hospital in the capital. He was 82, said a press release.

The eminent professional of the Shariah compliant bank left behind his wife, a daughter, other relatives and admirers.

The bank's Chairman Obayed Ullah Al Masud and Managing Director Mohammed Monirul Moula expressed their condolences over his death, a statement says.

Mr. Chowdhury joined Islami Bank in 1989 as an executive vice president. Before joining the bank, he served as deputy general manager and head of Agrani Bank's International Division.

His career began in 1963 as a probationary officer at the then Habib Bank Limited. After retiring from Islami Bank, he worked in several significant positions, including as the chairman of Islamic Commercial Insurance, independent director of Al-Arafah Islami Bank, managing director of Shahjalal Islami Bank and Shahjalal Islami Bank Securities.

Additionally, he served as chairman of the Trustee Board of South East University, director of Ahsania Mission Cancer and General Hospital, and director of Hajj Finance.

His first funeral prayer (namaz-e-janaza) has been scheduled to be held on Thursday after worshippers participate in their Zuhr prayer at the south gate of Baitul Mukarram mosque.

The second funeral prayer will be held at 3:00 PM at the South East University campus, while the third will be held after worshippers participate in Esha prayer at a mosque at Bailey Road in the capital.
