FE REPORT | February 04, 2025 00:00:00

Bangladesh and Japan on Monday signed an exchange of notes for implementing the 'Project for the Improvement of Equipment for Air Pollution Monitoring', for which Japan will provide USD 5.0 million as grant.

SAIDA Shinichi, Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh, and Md. Shahriar Kader Siddiky, Secretary, Economic Relations Division, signed it in presence of IKUINA Akiko, Japanese Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs.

Subsequently, ICHIGUCHI Tomohide, Chief Representative of JICA Bangladesh Office, and Md. Shahriar Kader Siddiky signed a relevant grant agreement, said a spokesperson of the Japanese Embassy.

Under the project, equipment for air pollution monitoring will be set up to enhance the capacity to measure and analyze air pollutants, derived mainly from vehicle emissions, in Dhaka and Chattogram, thereby contributing to enhancing air pollution control capacity.

"Under the partnership, Japan will continue its cooperation for development and prosperity of Bangladesh," said Ms. Ikuina.
