Jagannath University (JnU) has resumed admissions tests under self-management despite repeated requests and directives from the Ministry of Education to return to the cluster system, reports bdnews24.com.
The admission test for the "E" unit was held at 10am on Friday.
Initially, the plan was to hold the test in three shifts. However, the admission test was held in a single shift as the number of students was quite small for the Fine Arts Faculty.
As many as 1,375 students sat for the admission test, vying for 60 seats.
"We left the cluster system in a disciplined way through this admission test. Almost 90 percent of the applicants have appeared to sit for the exam," said Fine Arts Faculty Dean Prof Md Aloptogin Tushar.
The admission exam for the "D" unit or the Social Science Faculty will be held on Feb 14 and the test for the "B" unit or Arts and Law Faculty will be held on Feb 15.
The Science, and Life & Earth Science Faculty, or "A" unit will hold its entry exam on Feb 22, while the "C" unit or Business Studies Faculty will have its entrance exam on Feb 28.
The last time Jagannath University took the written admission exam for the honours first year was in the 2019-20 academic year.
That year, the university calculated the total GPA the applicants secured in their SSC and HSC exams and selected those applicants in the first phase. Then those students sat for written exams ahead of the final selection for admission.
After that, the university entered the cluster system in 2020 and took the admission tests under the system for three consecutive academic years.
