The Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (JUCSU) on Wednesday unveiled a four-month activity report, outlining a wide range of initiatives taken by the union for students' welfare since it assumed office.

The report was made public at a press conference held in front of the JUCSU building, alongside the launch of the union's website and publication of ongoing and upcoming initiatives.

Presenting the report, JUCSU General Secretary Mazharul Islam said the union formally assumed office four months ago but had remained committed to accountability from day one.

"We have worked to implement the promises made in our election manifesto and taken initiatives across all relevant sectors despite various challenges," he said.

JUCSU Vice President Abdur Rasid Jitu said the union remained active even while facing resource constraint, and built cooperation with hall unions, alumni, and donors to continue its programmes.

According to the JUCSU, the initiatives included arranging residential accommodation for 1,889 students of the 54th batch, emergency medical services, expanding transport facilities with introduction of 10 new carts, 100 eco-friendly auto-rickshaws, night bus services from Dhaka, and improving security with the formation of an Anti-Ragging Cell.

Other major initiatives included the renovation of Monpura Lake, environmental improvement drives with installation of 40 new dustbins, vaccination of campus animals, expansion of healthcare services, food safety measures at Bot Tola, and various sports and cultural events such as cricket and basketball matches, e-football tournaments, Lalon Sandhya, Pala Utsab, and commemorative programmes.

The JUCSU also reported holding awareness seminars on mental health and career guidance, and actively participating in programmes related to social and national issues, protests against sexual violence and solidarity campaigns for Teesta water rights and teachers' movements.

The union highlighted its upcoming initiatives that include Mehfil-e-Inqilab, International Career Expo, free IELTS courses, AI workshops, academic master plan, medical centre and central mosque renovation, bus tracking app, and research funding expansion.
