Kidnapped fabric trader rescued at Mirpur, five arrested

Police rescued a kidnap victim on Friday night and arrested five persons in connection with the kidnap from Shewrapara of Mirpur area in the capital.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Mirpur Model Police Station raided a house at Shewrapara.

They rescued the victim and nabbed five persons for their alleged involvement in kidnapping.

The arrestees are Md Alam Hossain (40), Md Monir Ahmed (35), Md Kabir (34), Md Mofizur Hossain Joni Mollah (44) and Mosammat Sufia (35).

A police official at Mirpur Model Police Station said the victim, Md Russel Khan, is a fabric trader based in Gazipur.

He developed business ties with many in the capital and thus became acquainted with Aina alias Kajoli.

On January 9, Kajoli asked Md Russel Khan to come to Sheorapara for business purposes.

Russel came to the area on January 10 and Kajoli took Russel to a house of Sufia on Iqbal road at Sheorapara in the city.

After reaching the house, some miscreants along with Kajoli and Sufia forcibly snatched away cash worth Tk 35,000, a mobile phone and valuable papers from Md Russel Khan.

They also took away Tk 40,000 from him by using his mobile pin codes of Nagad and bKash account.

Later, they demanded Tk 1.0 million from Russel's parents and his wife on phone.

Elahi, a friend of Russel, informed the Mirpur Model Police Station of the matter.

Police took prompt action that led to their arrests and rescued the victim. Police also recovered a knife, Tk 14,000 and five mobile phone sets from the possession.

A case was filed against them. They were sent to court.

The police official further said that efforts were underway to arrest others involved in the kidnapping.

In another drive on Saturday, a team of Detective Branch (DB) of Police of Tejgaon Circle arrested two drug traders with 24 kilograms of Hashish in the captal's Farmgate area.

The arrestees are Md Bosir Hasan (19) and Md Saiful Islam (20).

The arrestees confessed their involvement in drug trading for a long time. Legal action was taken against them.
