CHATTOGRAM, June 03: The low-lying areas in the port city went under knee-deep water due to heavy rains this (Friday) morning.

Sources said downpour started at 9:00 am on Friday and continued until 11:00 am. The local meteorological department recorded 26.6mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours from 3:00 pm yesterday to 3:00 pm today.

Most areas of Chattogram, including low-lying areas in the port city, were inundated due to torrential rains. So, the residents of these low-lying areas remained stranded. The low-lying areas such as Bakalia, Chandgaon, Bahadderhat, Chawk Bazar, Badurtala, Nasirabad, Halishahar, Patenga, Kattali, and Chaktai have gone under knee-deep water following torrential rains for several hours, causing waterlogging in the city.

Heavy shower also disrupted normal life in the port city. The city streets wore deserted look as the movement of vehicles and pedestrians was thin due to heavy rainfall.

It may be mentioned that even though the government has taken up several projects to resolve the waterlogging crisis in Chattogram permanently in 2018, the projects still remain incomplete. As a result, the city dwellers are yet to get rid of the waterlogging problem. The sufferings of city dwellers knew no bound due to waterlogging caused by several hours' rains today (Friday).

However, Bay of Bengal remains very rough due to monsoon winds. The meteorological department has asked the maritime port of Chittagong to hoist local cautionary signal number 3 for windy weather.
