Many publishers and participants of the month-long Amar Ekushey Book Fair were not happy with their sales mainly due to low visitor turnout on Sunday, the first working day of this week.
Some of the publishers, however, expressed the hope that the fair would get pace in the upcoming days which might help boost their business.
While visiting the pavilions and stalls at the fair venue on the fourth day, a small number of booklovers was seen roaming around the fair premises. Some of them were buying books while others were looking for their desired books and publications.
Mamun, a student of Dhaka University, told the FE that he came to the fair just to see the list of existing books and know about new books.
"I think most of the visitors come here to see the arrangements," he added.
Alamgir, a bookseller of Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) said, "The sales volume has not yet been satisfactory on the day due to poor presence of the buyers."
"Today is a working day that's why the number of visitors is less. I hope it will increase from next week," he added.
Some 111 new books hit Amar Ekushey Book fair on Sunday, said Loyet Rahman, an official of Bangla Academy.
With these, a total of 286 books have been released since the launch of the month-long book fair on February 01, according to the Bangla Academy.
Most of the books, published so far, are on poetry, an official of the academy's information centre told the FE, expressing the hope that an increasing number of new books would arrive in the fair in the days ahead.
