Madaripur hospital owner arrested for 'rape' of nurse

Police have arrested the owner of a private hospital in Madaripur's Shibchar for the alleged rape of a nurse, reports bdnews24.com.

The suspect was arrested from Shibchar on Thursday night, said Ratan Sheikh, chief of Shibchar Police Station.

The arrestee, 40-year-old Apel Mahmud, hailed from the West Senerchar area in Shariatpur's Zajira upazila. He owns the Shibchar United Hospital.

OC Ratan said, "The victim [nurse] worked for a few years at United Hospital in Shibchar. Her family filed a case on March 7 alleging she was abducted and raped while she worked there."

On Thursday, Sub Inspector Renuka Akter of Shibchar Police conducted a raid and arrested Apel Mahmud.

Apel was previously named in a child rape case and an extortion case, said OC Ratan Sheikh.
