FE Report

A two-day workshop on 'Fact Checking and Verification Techniques in News Reporting' began in the city on Saturday urging the participating journalists to practise more responsibilities and maintain professional discipline in publishing news.

Speakers at the inaugural session said journalists should present more credible and authentic information while reporting and in doing so they should consider maintaining transparency, originality and exercise neutrality.

Organised by Bangladesh NGO Network for Radio and Communications (BNNRC) with support from Internews Network, the event was attended by 23 journalists representing print, electronic media and online news portals based in the capital.

"Don't rush to publish half-baked and outdated stories having factual errors," said one of the speakers, adding, "It's always good to exercise factual accuracy and be safe rather than rushing to give half-done, inaccurate news and lose trust of the audience or readers."

Mosharraf Hossain, additional secretary, Ministry of Information, was present at the workshop as the chief guest.

AHM Bazlur Rahman, chief executive officer (CEO) of BNNRC, Syed Zain Al Mahmood, country director of Internews, and Chris Stephen, a freelance journalist, also attended the function.
