Man held over intimidating locals at Vatara

FE REPORT | April 19, 2025 00:00:00

The Detective Branch (DB) police have detained one of the accused, who allegedly fired in the air and threatened people to shoot with firearms at Vatara on Kuril Biswa Road in the capital on the night of April 1.

The detainee is Alinur Pavel alias as Pavel (32).

Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) of DMP Md Talebur Rahman said an intelligence team picked him up around 10:30pm on Thursday.

He said the detainee and his 10 to 12 cohorts on a private car appeared in front of a house owned by Md Rasheduzzaman Raju, a rival of Pavel, in Joyar Sahar Kha Para under Vatara Police Station around 1:56am on April 1.

The accused abused the victim, fired two rounds of bullets in blank, kicked the entrance gate and vandalised the CCTV camera of the house.

Mr Talebur further said that the miscreants also threatened to shoot by brandishing firearms when locals tried to come out of the houses, and at one stage they left the scene. Later, victim Raju filed a case with Vatara Police Station.

After scrutinising the CCTV footage, the detectives found involvement of the accused and detained him. Efforts are underway to arrest rest of the accused.
