Man's hanging body spotted at DU

Police recovered on Wednesday the body of a man hanging from a mahogany tree in the Dhaka University (DU) area.

The identity of the deceased (presumably 45 years old) is yet to be ascertained.

A police official at Shahbagh Police Station said they had received information around 8:45 am (Wednesday) about a man hanging from a mahogany tree on the footpath opposite the Mathematics Department of DU.

Afterwards police rushed to the spot and removed the body from the tree.

The body was sent to the Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) morgue for an autopsy after completing legal formalities.

According to locals, the man was a vagrant who had mental illness and had been living on the footpath in the area.

The police official suspected that the man had climbed the tree and hanged himself sometime on Tuesday night.

He said a thorough investigation got underway in this regard.
