The government has finalised two master plans to free rivers in Dhaka and Chattogram from grabbers and polluters.
LGRD Minister Md Tajul Islam informed it on Sunday at the secretariat. The concerned government agencies already started their job in this regard, he added.
The Karnaphuli river in Chattogram and rivers around capital Dhaka will come under the master plans, the Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) minister said.
Another objective of the master plans is to increase the navigability of the rivers.
The Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already approved the projects and directed to implement the projects, the minister added.
Earlier on June 2016, a committee was formed with the LGRD minister as its convener to this end at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) chaired by the Prime Minister.
