Mayor Nasir places Tk 24.25b CCC budget for 2018-19

CHATTOGRAM, July 10: Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) placed a budget of Tk 24.25 billion for the current fiscal year 2018-19.

Among the proposed budget, Tk 6.95 billion is expected to be earned from its own sources.

Mayor of the CCC AJM Nasir Uddin announced the proposed budget at a press conference at the KB Abdus Sattar Auditorium in the city corporation office on Tuesday afternoon.

He presented the revised budget of Tk 8.83 billion for the just-concluded fiscal year 2017-18.

Last year, the city mayor announced the budget for Tk 23.27 billion.

The city mayor said this year's annual budget is Tk 24.25 billion and among them, he expects Tk 17.30 billion from development grants and other sources.

In the break-down of the money expected from the CCC's own sources, the city mayor said Tk 1.91 billion will come from the outstanding holding taxes and charges, Tk 1.44 billion from the current year's holding tax and charges and Tk 1.33 billion from other taxes.

The city corporation's total expenditure and maintenance cost in the current fiscal year has been set at Tk 5.42 billion, including Tk 2.72 billion on account of wages, salaries and other benefits.

The budget includes cost of road development and repair, drain cleaning and water logging problem, building construction, equipment purchase, sodium light and LED on city streets, transports, automated traffic signal and others.

The amount for drain cleaning and water logging problem in the current fiscal of the CCC is Tk 40.0 million only.

He said the water logging is the main problem of the city and the government has approved Tk 56.00 billion for a project of Chittagong Development Authority to address the water logging which is being implemented by the Bangladesh Army.

CCC Chief Executive Officer Md Shamsuddoha presided over the budget presentation programme. Finance Standing Committee chairman Md Shafiul Alam spoke on the occasion while chief engineer Lt Col Mohiuddin, chief education officer Nazia Shirin, chief health officer Dr Selim Akhtar Chowdhury, secretary Abul Hossain, chief accounts officer Md Saifuddin and ward councillors attended it.
