Meet on climate change begins in city today

An international meeting on climate change titled 'Dhaka Meeting of the Global Commission on Adaptation' will be held in the city from July 9 to 10, foreign minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said on Monday.

President of the Marshal Islands Dr Hilda Heine and former UN secretary general Ban Ki Moon will attend the two -day meeting which will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The FM said that GCA was founded in the Netherlands in October of 2018 and as a pioneer in the global fight against climate change Bangladesh has taken the initiative to host the GCA meet this year.

The Dhaka meeting will have a detailed discussion on a report about adaptation and the recommendations of the meeting will be placed in the upcoming UN general assembly meet in September, Dr Momen mentioned.

He also informed that the President of the Marshal Island and the former UN secretary general will visit Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar. The foreign delegation will also visit a project undertaken to protect river erosion in Naria upazila under Shariatpur.
