Mental health services launched for jet crash victims

The NIMH has launched several urgent initiatives to support the mentally traumatised victims of the recent BAF training aircraft crash at Milestone School and College in the capital’s Uttara area.

The emergency measures by the National Institute of Mental Health and Hospital (NIMH) include activation of a hotline service in coordination with the Bangladesh Association of Psychiatrists (BAP), according to a press statement issued by the health ministry.

Other measures include: formation of a special support committee for affected individuals, launching of a dedicated outdoor counselling cell, allocation of inpatient beds, and deployment of specialist outreach teams.

In addition, victims are encouraged to directly contact NIMH for 24-hour emergency mental health assistance.

As of now, one patient has already been admitted and is receiving treatment at the hospital.
