Mine explosion kills one, injures five in Bandarban

Bandarban, Mar 15: A man was killed and five of his family members were injured in a mine explosion in Bandarban on Wednesday night.

The dead is identified as Maio (45) while the injured are Maio's wife Mro (34) and his children Situ Mro (9), Ya Yong Mro (5), Tonko Mro (3) and Tungroong Mro (2).

The incident took place at Kurukpata Newton Rally Para, near a border area in Alikadam upazila of the district while some brokers were taking them to Myanmar with the promise of providing better settlement there.

Locals recovered the injured persons and sent them to Alikadam Upazila Hospital for better treatment on Thursday.

However, the dead body could not be recovered until the writing of the report.

BGB Sector Commander of Bandarban Colonel Iqbal Hossain said the dead body was not found at night. But, the injured were rescued and brought to Kurukpata army camp and they were being treated.

He said some families from Thanzi and Alikadam in the hilly area were trying to sneak into Myanmar in collaboration with a local broker.

BGB members are making the people aware so that they do not fall into such trap.
