Minni files bail petition with another HC bench

FE Report | August 19, 2019 00:00:00

Aysha Siddika Minni, wife of Rifat Sharif who was brutally killed in Barguna in broad daylight recently, on Sunday once again submitted her bail petition with another High Court bench through her lawyer.

Advocate Z I Khan Panna, a counselor for Minni, said, "The petition has been placed with the HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman. The petition may be listed on the cause-list of Monday (today) for hearing."

Earlier on August 8, the HC Bench of Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman, a vacation HC bench, denied bail to Aysha Siddika Minni in the case.

The bench said the court would only issue a rule in this regard, but it would not grant her bail at this stage of the case upon which Minni's lawyers took back her bail petition.

Earlier, a Barguna court rejected Minni's bail petition twice on July 22 and 30.

After being rejected in the trial court, Minni submitted the petition with the HC through her lawyers on August 5.

Police arrested Minni on July 16 after a daylong interrogation and produced her in the court for remand the following day. No lawyer represented Minni during the remand hearing in the court.

Rifat Sharif, a 25-year-old Internet service provider, was indiscriminately hacked by a group of youths.

The video footage of the incident that went viral in the social media showed Minni was screaming and trying in vain to save her husband from the assailants.

The victim's father filed a murder case with Barguna Sadar Police Station against 12 people on the same day.
