The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said on Friday that Meghna Alam, model and winner of the Miss Earth Bangladesh 2020, was taken into security custody following due legal procedures.
"Following legal procedures, Meghna Alam has been taken into security custody on charges of attempting to disrupt state security and spoil inter-state relations by spreading false information about important individuals, and conspiring to harm the country economically," Deputy Police Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) of DMP Muhammad Talebur Rahman said in a statement issued on the day.
"The accusation of abducting Meghna Alam is not true. Nevertheless, she has the right to seek legal recourse," he said.
Meghna Alam was picked up by the Detective Branch (DB) police on Wednesday (April 9, 2025) from her flat in Bashundhara area of the capital. At that time she was on Facebook live. She claimed that she was innocent.
Meanwhile, a court in Dhaka on Thursday ordered sending Meghna Alam to jail for 30 days under the detention act.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sefatullah passed the order upon a petition filed the Detective Branch (DB) after she was produced before the court.
The order stated that in the interest of public safety and maintaining law and order, Meghna Alam will be kept in detention for 30 days under the Special Powers Act, 1974.
In compliance with the court order, she was later transferred to Kashimpur High Security Central Jail.
