The Joint District Judge of Narayanganj offered on Tuesday unconditional apology to the Appellate Division of Supreme Court for the failure to dispose of a case filed over faulty electric metres and inflated bill in over 10 years, reports UNB.

A four-member Appellate Division bench, led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, reprimanded the judge for his failure and ordered him to dispose of the case within April 15.

Earlier on February 7, the Supreme Court summoned the Joint District Judge of Narayanganj to appear before it on February 13 to explain the matter.

According to the case statement, Mac Papers Limited filed an appeal with the lower court seeking declaration of Titas' 12 months bills illegal terming it excessive caused by metre error.

In 2007, the lower court dismissed the prayer while the company later filed a review appeal with the High Court.

In 2008, High Court heard the review appeal and ordered the company to pay their due 17 lakh along with their concurrent month's bill of Tk 7 lakh.

The HC also asked the lower court to dispose of the case within a short period without any delay.
