Nasim for stern actions against building code violators

March 31, 2019 00:00:00

Awami League presidium member and 14-party alliance spokesman Mohammed Nasim Saturday demanded of the government to take punitive action against the people who constructed buildings ignoring building code, reports BSS.

"Take necessary action against those who constructed buildings violating the rules . . . Owner of the Banani FR building is an identified person and a section of RAJUK's corrupt officials are involved in it," he told newsmen after visiting the Banani fire victims at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) in the city.

Nasim, also former health and family welfare minister, categorically said they (the persons involved in violating building code) must be brought under justice by issuing notifications.

He stressed on taking necessary actions against the building-owners first as they built multi-storey buildings, constructed the 23rd storey-building against the approved 18th storey one and buildings without keeping provisions of safe exit to avert any untoward incident.

"If it is possible to arrest the owner of the FR Building, the other building owners will get warning message to change their mindsets", the senior ruling party leader observed.

He urged the authorities concerned to remain alert so that none can go unpunished due to any loophole of the existing laws.

Terming the losses of life and property in the Banani inferno incident, the former health minister expressed his sympathy and sorrow to the bereaved family members.

Samyabadi Dal general secretary and former minister Dilip Barua and Prof Dr Samantalal Sen accompanied Nasim at DMCH.
