Nasim warns errant doctors again

February 06, 2014 00:00:00

Issuing a warning to the doctors working in rural areas, Health Minister Mohammad Nasim Wednesday said stern actions will be taken against those who will be found absent in their workplaces, reports UNB.

"If the agricultural officials and upazila officers can attend regularly their offices then why our doctors cannot do that?" he added.

The Health Minister said this while talking to reporters after two meetings with a delegation of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) and Paribar Parikalpana Peshajibi Samonnay Parishad at the secretariat.

Nasim, also a presidium member of the ruling Awami League (AL), urged the physicians not to indulge in corruption. "We will have to ensure better healthcare services by making our workplaces free from corruption," he added.

"We don't want to take action against you. You will have to be aware of your responsibilities," he said.

The minister urged the doctors to remain present in their workplaces for ensuring better health services to people.

BSS adds: Nasim said health insurance for the poor will be introduced soon as per the commitment of the government.

He said the council meeting will also finalise incentives for physicians to encourage them to render services in the remote areas.

Minister of State for Health Zahid Malik and Health Secretary MN Niazuddin were present during the meeting.

Criticising BNP leader Begum Khaleda Zia's Tuesday's press conference remarks, Mohammad Nasim said a vested quarter has been trying to capture state power. Despite the national and international pressure, he said, Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina has been able to complete the election in time.
