Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan has said that national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam's life and his view on literature teach people how to stand against all forms of social injustice.

"Nazrul's works also sends a strong message of unity, equality, and peace," he said at a seminar in memory of the poet held at his grave on Sunday, marking his 126th birth anniversary.

DU Pro-VC (Administration) Professor Sayema Haque Bidisha and Treasurer Professor M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury were also present. Dr. Mohammad Azam, director of Bangla Academy, delivered a speech on "The Mass Uprising of 2024: The Legacy of Kazi Nazrul."

The VC highlighted the depth and richness of Nazrul's literature, saying one needs to be a true human being to fully grasp the depth of his works. Describing Nazrul as a multidimensional personality, he said Nazrul's versatile contributions will continue to inspire generations.

Prof Khan also announced that the university plans to construct several residential halls under a new project, one of which will be named after Kazi Nazrul Islam in recognition of his contribution.

To celebrate the poet's birth anniversary, DU organised various programmes. Teachers, officers, and staff members gathered in front of the Aparajeyo Bangla sculpture in the morning and laid a wreath at the poet's grave.
