Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed panel's newly elected leaders of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) offered prayers on Thursday seeking divine blessings for the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War and the July Uprising.
In the morning, the leaders first visited the graveyard of the July Uprising martyrs at Rayerbazar and offered prayers. They then went to the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial at Rayerbazar, where they offered special prayers and sought blessings for the martyrs.
Among those present were DUCSU's newly-elected Vice President (VP) Abu Shadik Kayem, General Secretary (GS) S M Farhad, Assistant General Secretary (AGS) Md. Mohiuddin Khan, and other elected leaders from the panel.
Speaking after the prayers, VP Kayem said their main responsibility was to fulfill the dreams and aspirations of the martyrs.
"Dhaka University was the birthplace of the July Revolution, and it was here that it reached its success. Students will always have the right to question us. Our duty is to work for them."
He further added, "The martyrs are our guiding light. They showed us the way. Their legacy is the creation of a Bangladesh based on equality. We came here to revive that spirit."
Newly elected GS S M Farhad said they began their post-election journey by paying tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War and the July Uprising. "Next, we will listen to the students. Even before taking office formally, we will reach out to everyone. By honouring the sacrifices of the martyrs, we are starting our work," he said.
