Book on Nazrul's works launched
A book compiled by Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) Chairman AFM Hayatullah was launched on Thursday, says a statement. State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid unveiled the cover of the book titled 'Nazrul Sahityer Manimanjusha' as the chief guest at a programme at the BADC seminar hall in the city. Chandrabati Academy organised the book launching ceremony. National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Soumitra Shekhar Dey and Nazrul Institute Executive Director Mohammad Zakir Hossain were present as the special guests. Bangla Academy Director General Poet Muhammad Nurul Huda presided over the function. — Press Release
DU Technology unit admission test held
The first year admission test for the B.Sc (Engineering) under Faculty of Engineering and Technology of Dhaka University (DU) was held on Friday for the students of the 2021-22 academic session. The test was held from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at 16 centres in the Dhaka city. A total of 13,876 students applied against 1555 seats. Around 9 students are vying for one. DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman visited Curzon Hall centres with Engineering and Technology Faculty dean and admission test coordinator Dr Hafiz Md Hasan Babu. DU Treasurer Prof Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed also visited exam halls separately. — DU Correspondent
'Gold smuggler' killed in clash with cops
BENAPOLE, Sept 02: An alleged gold smuggler was killed in a clash with police while his two accomplices were held with 30 gold bars in Jashore early on Friday. The detainees have been identified as Rabin Sarkar, 32, son of Abul Sarkar, and Abul Kashem, 34, son of Kabir Hossain from Cumilla. During a drive by detectives in the Jamtala area of Jashore's Sharsha upazila, the gold smugglers attacked the sleuths, said Jewel Imran, assistant SP (Nabharan circle). — UNB
Coast Guard detains 31 Indian fishermen
BAGERHAT, Sept 02: Coast Guard Wednesday detained 31 Indian fishermen for illegally fishing in Bangladesh's territorial waters. Two fishing boats were also seized during the drive. Lieutenant Commander Khandaker Munif Taki, media officer of Coast Guard, said they found the Indian boats illegally fishing in Bangladeshi territorial waters - 77 nautical miles west of the international maritime boundary in the Bay of Bengal. Coast Guard vessel Mansur Ali conducted the operation. The detainees were handed over to Mongla Police Station Thursday, Munif said. — UNB
