Man killed in city train crash

A man died following head injuries as he was hit by a running train in the city's Karwan Bazar area on Friday. The deceased was identified as Bojendra Chandra Mondal (60). The incident happened at Katpatti in the Karwan Bazar DIT Market level-crossing area in the morning. He sustained injuries on head as he caught between the two running trains. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the attending doctor declared him dead around 10: 30am. He hailed from Sirajdikhan upazila of Munshiganj district and dealt in timber trading in the Tejgaon area. Binoy Chandra Mondal, son of the deceased, said that his sister visited their home on Friday morning. — FE Reports

Two more victims of BM Depot fire identified

CHATTOGRAM, Sept 16: Two more charred bodies of the victims of deadly fire at BM Container Depot at Sitakund upazila in Chattogram have been identified through DNA test. Suman Banik, Inspector (Investigation) of Sitakunda thana, said that 39 out of 51 bodies have been identified so far. "The identities of Mohammad Main Uddin of Hatiya upazila, and Mohammad Jewel Rana of Companigonj upazila of Noakhali district, were confirmed on Thursday," he added. "The bodies kept in Chattogram Medical College Hospital morgue have been handed over to their families," he said. — Our Correspondent

Two smugglers held with five gold bars in Chuadanga

CHUADANGA, Sept 16: Police in Chaudanga detained two smugglers with five gold bars on Friday when they were on their way to India. The detainees have been identified as Kamrul Hsan Jewel, 35, and Arif, 48, both residents of Kutubpur village in Damurhuda upazila. On a tip-off, a police team put by barricades at the busy BADC intersection at 01:00 am and stopped for checking a car coming from Faridpur, said Mahbubur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Chuadanga sadar police station. "A thorough checking helped us seize the gold bars. Two occupants of the car were detained," he said. — UNB

Agent banking director killed by lightning strike

BHOLA, Sept 16: A-40-year-old man was killed and two others were injured in a lightning strike at Golakpur village of Shambhupur union in Bhola's Tazumuddin on Friday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Abdur Razzak. He was the director of Al-Arafah Islami Agent Banking in Kunjerhat and Shibpur Khasherhat markets. The injured, Hanif and Monjur, were undergoing treatment at Bhola Sadar Hospital. Md. Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Tazumuddin police station, said all three were struck by lightning while collecting betel nuts during the rains. — UNB
