New IGP takes charge

Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun took charge as the country's 31st Inspector General of Police (IGP). He replaced Dr Benazir Ahmed. Earlier, the government appointed Director General of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun as the new IGP. A gazette notification was issued in this regard by the Ministry of Home Affairs' Public Security Division. — BSS

Teenage boy killed in city road crash

An unidentified boy (14) was killed in a road accident in the capital's Uttara area on Friday. An official of Airport Police Station told the FE that the incident happened near the newly-built Civil Aviation Bhaban on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway when a running bus hit him early Friday. He died on the spot. He said they recovered the body and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy. The police official further said that they were trying to ascertain the identity of the deceased by examining his finger print. He said that the efforts were also underway to identify the bus and its driver responsible for the incident. — FE report

DNCRP's drive at Mirpur in city

The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) continued its market monitoring drive in the capital's Mirpur area on Friday. During the drive led by DNCRP's Dhaka office head assistant director Md Abdul Jabbar Mondal and assistant director Magfur Rahman fined Olympia Bakery and Confectionary Tk 0.2 million for selling date expired baking powder, keeping used face masks on bread. The DNCRP carried out the drives in line with the Consumer Rights Protection Act 2009. — FE report

Another dies of Covid-19, 708 new cases

Another Covid-19 patient died in 24 hours until Friday morning. A total of 708 fresh cases were reported in the same period. With the new numbers, country's total fatalities rose to 29,363 while the total caseload to 2,025,197, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). The daily case test positivity rate rose to 14.66 per cent from Thursday's 13.53 per cent as 4,828 samples were tested. The lasted deceased was a man from Dhaka division. The mortality rate remains unchanged at 1.45 per cent and the recovery rate at 97.04 per cent respectively. In August, the country reported 32 Covid-linked deaths and 6,689 cases. — UNB
